Why should I stop using a UV lamp?

A UVC lamp only helps against suspended algae, i.e. green cloudy water, and in fish farming against pathogens and germs.

When using a UVC lamp, the water does clear up quickly at first, but the side effects of this application (destruction of the biological balance and release of nutrients stored in the suspended algae) soon create further problems.

The nutrients released again and the depletion of important carbonate hardness then promote the growth of another type of algae, such as filamentous algae. This creates a recurring cycle of problems.

By disconnecting the power supply to the filter with the UVC lamp, you permanently switch off the destructive light source.
